Child Safety & Wellbeing

Our Commitment to Child Safety and Wellbeing

The safety, wellbeing and inclusion of young people is central to everything we do. We are committed to providing environments where all young people feel safe, respected and supported to participate in our programs.

We take a proactive approach to child safety by embedding safe practices across our programs, people and partnerships. This includes promoting the rights and voices of young people, maintaining clear behavioural standards for our team, and ensuring that any concerns can be raised and responded to appropriately.

In our work with young people, we:

  • provide safe, respectful and supportive environments
  • uphold clear standards of behaviour for all staff, facilitators and volunteers
  • prioritise the rights, voices and participation of young people
  • maintain zero tolerance for abuse, harm or inappropriate conduct
  • provide clear, safe and accessible pathways for raising concerns or making complaints, and take all reports seriously

We are committed to inclusion and cultural safety. We strive to create environments that are safe and welcoming for all young people. This includes taking deliberate steps to ensure our programs are inclusive and responsive to the needs of:

  • Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Māori young people
  • Young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Young people with disability

We recognise the importance of listening to and respecting diverse perspectives, and of ensuring our programs are accessible and inclusive for all participants.

Our approach aligns with relevant child safety legislation, standards and frameworks across Australia and New Zealand. We maintain a range of policies and procedures that support this commitment, including our Code of Conduct, Working with Young People Policy, and Complaints and Reporting processes.

Copies of these policies are available on request. If you would like more information, please contact us at policyenquiries@rse.org.au.
